Streets PAC NJ Endorses Vision Zero Champions
Over the past two months, StreetsPAC NJ received and released 22 candidate surveys and interviewed each of those candidates. The slate of endorsements includes candidates for Mayor and City Council who have demonstrated the strongest commitment, in their respective races, to accelerating the city’s Vision Zero goal, expanding the protected bike lane network, and delivering equitable car-free transportation options.
StreetsPAC NJ is proud to endorse the following candidates:
Mayor - James Solomon
James has been a fighter for safe streets during his time on city council and continues that effort in his run for Mayor. James has proven his support in taking on traffic violence through his commitments to Vision Zero. His relentless focus on affordability applies to transportation where has been a champion for bike, pedestrian, and mass transit infrastructure giving Jersey City residents affordable car-free transportation options.
At-Large - Mamta Singh
Mamta champions affordable transit options, supporting dedicated bus lanes and new pedestrian plazas. She is fighting the NJ Turnpike expansion and will push Trenton to end the statewide ban on life-saving automated enforcement.
Ward A - Denise Ridley
Denise supports working with the community on ensuring Johnston Avenue and all roadways in Ward A are safe for all road users. She is committed to public education about Complete Streets and traffic-calming measures like no-parking zones near crosswalks (“daylighting”), and using infrastructure hardening to improve safety on Ward A’s High-Injury Network.
Ward B - Lorena Loayza
We anticipate working with Lorena to bring life saving safety improvements to the West Side. Her ties with the business community make her an important ally in finding equitable solutions that work for all transit modes.
Ward C - Dawn Giambalvo
Dawn is a committed bike commuter who will champion affordable, sustainable transit by pushing for the full, protected installation of the Summit Ave bike lane and prioritizing pedestrian and cycling safety improvements around Journal Square and the entirety of Ward C.
Ward D - Jake Ephros
Jake has proposed a comprehensive redesign of key streets in the Heights to prioritize safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, and organizing a Municipal Transit Council to apply sustained pressure on NJ Transit. Jake’s strong commitment to reimagining our streets makes him the ideal candidate for voters looking for a break from the past.
Ward E - Eleana Little
Eleana is an environmental engineer ready to deliver the next wave of downtown infrastructure successes, focusing on protecting our intersections to make them safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, improving our mass transit options, increasing our public open space, and expanding the protected bike lane network.
StreetsPAC NJ urges all residents committed to safer streets, better transit, and a more equitable city to vote in the upcoming Jersey City Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 4th. In the meantime we encourage all of you to support these candidates through donations and by volunteering to canvass, phone bank, or host a fundraiser.
Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved through StreetsPAC NJ as the election draws nearer.
